Typical Hours of Operation:
Monday–Friday: 4:00 PM – 8:30 PM
Saturdays: 10:00 AM – 8:30 PM
Sundays: 1:00 PM – 8:30 PM
Weekdays with no school: 10:00 AM – 8:30 PM
Sunday through Friday shifts are single shifts for ice rink attendants. Saturday and weekdays with no
schools are divided into two shifts. Table 1 illustrates the two shifts.
Table 1: Saturday and weekdays no school shifts
First Shift Second Shift
Saturdays
10:00 AM – 3:00 PM 3:00 PM – 8:30 PM
Weekdays with no school
This staffing model of 18 ice rink attendants has been in effect since the 2022-2023 season. Based on
staffing, the total expenditures for rink attendants for 2025-2026 season was $11,955.
Setup and Installation
The hockey rink boards at Central Park and Silver Point Park remain installed year-round. Each ice rink
requires installation of back stop netting annually which takes two full-time Public Works crewmembers
approximately 3 hours at each park to install.
Emerald Park boards are transported, installed, and removed each season by the full time Public Works
crew. Emerald Park board installation and removal require approximately six staff members, 6 hours for
transport, set up, teardown, and return transport.
Back stop netting installation requires two staff members approximately three hours at each park to set
up both hockey nets.
Ice Creation & Ongoing Maintenance
Ice creation is weather dependent. On average, it requires one staff member watering daily for
approximately ten consecutive days to establish safe, stable ice conditions.
Routine maintenance occurs every 2–3 days depending on use and weather. Maintenance includes
brooming, scraping surface irregularities, and watering during favorable conditions. When weather
conditions are not conducive to ice preservation, maintenance is postponed.
Snow removal and plowing of rinks occur following all snow events to maintain rink usability.
Water Usage
Ice rinks require routine watering for maintenance. Water has been recorded per season, not per park.
Table 2 illustrates the estimated gallons of water per season. Seasons with N/A indicate that the gallons
were not recorded.
Table 2: Water usage (gallons)
Season Gallons of Water
2016-2017 N/A
2017-2018 N/A
2018-2019 302,400
9
