St. Anthony -New Brighton School District #282 Update. Bob Laney, ISD #282 <br />Superintendent, and Wendy Webster, Community Services Director, presenting. <br />Mayor Faust introduced ISD #282 Superintendent Bob Laney and Community Services Director <br />Wendy Webster. <br />Mr. Laney presented three goals identified by the School Board earlier this year, including <br />implementing a comprehensive plan to address the School District's long-term financial needs, <br />which was finalized in July of this year, and establishing a multi-year plan to address technology <br />needs and the School Board is moving forward with potential funding to meet those needs. <br />Ms. Webster advised that a Referendum Advisory Committee was formed to discuss the <br />operating levy, technology needs, and the impact of the 2013 legislative session on education <br />funding. She stated that Decision Resources conducted a survey in June with 400 randomly <br />selected households and of those surveyed, 75% did not have school-age children and 54% had <br />children attending the St. Anthony -New Brighton schools. She added that 49% of the residents <br />surveyed were 55 years of age and older. <br />Mr. Laney explained that 93% of those surveyed felt the quality of St. Anthony -New Brighton <br />schools was excellent or good and 58% felt the School District was meeting all of the learning <br />needs, adding that Decision Resources indicated this percentage was the highest rating in the <br />metro area. He stated that 71% felt the School District money was being spent effectively, 88% <br />of those surveyed felt the St. Anthony -New Brighton School District was a good value for the <br />investment, and 92% felt the teachers were doing a positive job, adding that all these percentages <br />were identified as some of the highest in the metro area. He stated that 85% of survey <br />respondents felt that technology was essential or very important and 79% felt that technology <br />opportunities in the School District were either excellent or good. He noted that approximately <br />80% of the technology in the schools was bought before 2009 and while there is adequate <br />technology now, he was concerned about meeting technology needs in two to three years.
