• The majority of businesses have less than ten computers on site. <br />• Very high percentages, over 90 percent, of businesses already have <br />Internet access and the majority of those have a high-speed connection. <br />• The ISP's that businesses are using include: <br />o Cable company (Comcast in Saint Anthony Village); <br />o Qwest; <br />o Integra;- <br />• AOL; <br />o Echelon; and <br />0 others. <br />• Most businesses are paying between $25 and $99 per month for Internet <br />access. <br />• Businesses are more willing to switch Internet.providers if the cost for <br />service is lower. than they are currently paying. <br />• Area businesses have an interest in .wireless connectivity, but many are <br />concerned about security issues. Those businesses that reported already <br />using a wireless network are significantly less worried about.security. <br />• An overwhelming majority of businesses, over 80 percent, feel that..the city <br />should play a role in ensuring access to competitively priced Internet <br />connectivity. Some of the roles mentioned include: <br />o Make rules to promote competition; <br />o Become a provider of high-speed Internet; <br />o Install _a network and lease to private firms; <br />o No role. <br />• The willingness to support a wireless network is higher if subscriber <br />revenue is used.
