City Council Regular Meeting.Minutes <br />May 9, 2006 <br />Page 9 <br />1 Mayor Faust asked whether the Higherest sidewalk is eligible for the new NINDOT sidewalk <br />2 grant. Mr. Mornson answered in the affirmative and explained that it is a State road but that is <br />3 not a requirement of the NINDOT grant. However, the sidewalk has to be available to get <br />4 children to school. <br />5 <br />6 Councilmember Stille stated he enjoyed working on clean up day and visiting with residents. <br />7 <br />8 Councilmember Stille stated he attended the first meeting of the Comprehensive Plan Task Force <br />9 on May 8, 2006 and explained this was the first of five meetings. He stated he is looking <br />10 forward to that process. <br />11 <br />12 Councilmember Gray stated that last Wednesday he attended the Northwest Youth and Family <br />13 Services Leadership luncheon, a fundraising event, and believe it was very successful. He <br />14 thanked Mayor Faust, Councilmember Thuesen, City Manager Mornson, Parks Director <br />15 Hartman, and Assistant City Manager Moore -Sykes for their support in attending that function. <br />16 <br />17 Councilmember Gray stated he received an e-mail from Steve Peterson, President of the <br />18 Northeast Lions Club, who will be before the Council to apply for a gambling license for the <br />19 Village Pub. He explained they have agreed to a lease with Village Pub and that application will <br />20 be discussed at the May 23, 2006 Council meeting. <br />21 <br />22 Councilmember Thuesen referenced the Vital Aging Council agenda and stated that at a future <br />23 meeting he would like a representative from Vital Aging to present the findings of their recent <br />24 survey. <br />25 <br />26 Councilmember Thuesen stated he enjoyed the Northwest Youth and Family Services <br />27 Leadership luncheon, which included an excellent speaker. He noted this group does many good <br />28 things for the community. <br />29 <br />30 Councilmember Thuesen stated he attended the Comprehensive Plan Task Force meeting. He <br />31 stated he believes this is an important process that will create a document that is not put on the <br />32 shelf but is intended to be used a guide for the next ten years in how the City will develop, its <br />33 philosophies, and many other issues. He encouraged residents to provide their thoughts to the <br />34 Council or other members on the Task Force on how they see St. Anthony in the next ten years. <br />35 <br />36 Mayor Faust reported on the Mayor's Association meeting held April 28 and 29 in Austin, <br />37 Minnesota where the theme was emergency operations. He advised that many of the mayors <br />38 have gone through serious travesties and it was interesting to hear what they had to say. Mayor <br />39 Faust commented that based on the City's table top exercise, he thinks St. Anthony is in better <br />40 shape now than before should something occur. <br />41 <br />42 Mayor Faust commented that it is interesting when you go into a community like Austin that has <br />43 a strong identity with a business, which in their case is Spam. <br />44 <br />45 Mayor Faust stated he also attended the Northwest Youth and Family Services Leadership <br />46 luncheon and least anyone think it was a free meal, it was not, it was a fund raiser.
