WIIEREAS, Silver Lake Road is considered to be the main north -south arterial <br />roadway bisecting the City of St. Anthony, connecting the shopping areas <br />of Silver Lake Village in the north and St. Anthony Village Shopping <br />Center on the south, creating links to Central Park and the St. Anthony <br />Community Center, and creating a pedestrian and bicycle link to St. <br />Anthony Boulevard and the Northwest Diagonal Regional Trail; and <br />WHEREAS, funding availability for the Silver Lake Road reconstruction is limited, and <br />the financial viability of installing sidewalks is currently in question; and <br />WHEREAS, the NTP grant program would provide the impetus as well as supplemental <br />funds to allow for the constructing of the proposed sidewalk on both sides <br />of Silver Lake Road as part of the proposed construction project. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of St. <br />Anthony supports and authorizes the application for funding under the NTP <br />program, to help finance the sidewalk installation along the cast and west <br />boulevards of Silver Lake Road. The new sidewalk will improve safety <br />conditions, and will provide a more effective non -motorized link between homes, <br />local and regional recreational facilities, St. Anthony Middle School, St. Anthony <br />High School, and the Silver Lake Village residential and retail development; and <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council for the City of St. Anthony <br />authorizes City Staff to prepare and submit an application for the NTP program to <br />Transit for Livable Communities for funding consideration of the aforementioned <br />sidewalk project. <br />Adopted this 27°i day of March, 2007. <br />ATTEST: <br />City Clerk <br />Reviewed for administration: <br />Mayor <br />City Manager <br />57 <br />
