He stated Junior Achievement programs help
prepare young people for the real world by showing them how to generate wealth and effectively
manage it, how to create jobs which make their communities more robust, and how to apply
entrepreneurial thinking to the workplace. He commented students put these lessons into action,
and learn the value of contributing to their communities. City Manager Morrison reported Junior
Achievement's worldwide purpose is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global
economy.
City Manager Morrison commented they completed five projects: Week one was on how a
community works where they identified various jobs in the community; the second week they
ran a company called Sweet O donuts and filled the roles of workers; the third week they talked
about the role of government and taxes; on week four they voted for a mayor; and, on week five
they studied how money moves from a bank to the different businesses.
City Manager Morrison called each student to the front where they were presented with a
Certificate of Achievement from Mayor Faust.
