Section: VI.C.
Ordinance 08-007; Dangerous Dog Ordinance (second reading)
The first reading of Ordinance 08-007; Dangerous Dog was
at the November 12, 2008 City Council meeting. The
Council had several questions and the responses are listed
below:
1205.01- Staff has deleted "cat" from this section to keep
consistency in the ordinance.
1205.05 - The 10 - day period has been recommended by
veterinarian's for detecting rabies.
1205.08 - This section does not reflect a period of time as
we may need more than 10 -days in some cases.
Generally, if the owner has proof of the rabies
shots, we implement 1205.05 and allow the owner
to quarantine the animal for 10 -days. The police
department has been told that this time period
will, in most cases, reveal if the dog is sick.
Staff did not define potentially dangerous dogs, as the
hearing process only refers to dangerous dogs. We will
depend on State Statute for a variety of definitions rather
than reiterating State Statute in our ordinance.
Michael Morrison
City Manager
Attachments:
• Ordinance 08007; Dangerous Dog Ordinance (second reading)
ZACounci!
