City Council Regular Meeting Minutes <br />September 22, 2009 <br />Page 3 <br />1 State of Liquor Operations <br />2 o Mission Statement <br />3 o Controlling the Sale of Beverage Alcohol <br />4 o Value of Municipal Liquor Operations Revenue <br />5 o 2009 Summary of Sales: 1) sales increase of $161,900; 2) net profit increase <br />6 of $50,800 <br />7 Five -Year Anniversary of the New Stores <br />8 o New store openings <br />9 o Five -Year Net Profit History <br />10 o A large promotion will be held in October to celebrate the anniversary; <br />11 information is available on the city website. <br />12 Visit by Michael Mondovi <br />13 <br />14 Councilmember Roth commended Liquor Manager Larson for the efforts involved with a <br />15 $50,000 increase in net profits with the current economy. <br />16 <br />17 Mayor Faust commended Liquor Manager Larson for the successful compliance checks and the <br />18 training provided to staff. He pointed out that the Police Department is likely more vigilant in <br />19 testing compliance of the municipal liquor operation than a privately run operation. He noted that <br />20 Michael Mondovi was very impressed with the Liquor Operation during his recent visit. <br />21 <br />22 VI. GENERAL BUSINESS OF COUNCIL. <br />23 <br />24 None. <br />25 <br />26 VII. REPORTS FROM CITY MANAGER AND COUNCIL MEMBERS. <br />27 <br />28 City Manager Morrison reported on the following: <br />29 ■ Planning Commission Chair Stromgren has announced his resignation due to a relocation <br />30 from the community. Acceptance of Chair Stromgren's resignation will be included on <br />31 the Consent Agenda of the October 13, 2009 City Council meeting. <br />32 ■ There are currently three openings on the Planning Commission and two openings on the <br />33 Park Commission. The deadline to apply for the commissions is November 20, 2009. <br />34 ■ Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman will attend the October 27, 2009 City Council <br />35 meeting to discuss various trends in crime. <br />36 ■ Paving of the 2009 Street Project is complete; finishing work includes landscaping and <br />37 sidewalks on Foss Road and Chandler Drive. <br />38 ■ Emerald Park Project is not complete — ribbon cutting is scheduled for October 14, 2009. <br />39 ■ The DNR has denied the request for a one-year extension on implementation of the water <br />40 conservation rate. There will be a discussion on the rates at the October 13, 2009 City <br />41 Council meeting. <br />42 <br />43 Councilmember Stille reported on his attendance at the September 21, 2009 Vital Aging <br />44 Committee where he provided a presentation on the City Council goals. Under the senior <br />45 transition goal he discussed the possibility of a community garden at the previous bowling alley <br />46 site; this could also relate to the environmental goal. <br />3 <br />
