16
Staff Report
To: Mike Morrison, City Manager
From: John Malenick, Fire Chief
Date: November 9, 2010
Re: Hennepin County Mitigation Plan
Background: Historically, St. Anthony has adopted and participated in the Hennepin
County Multi -Jurisdictional All -Hazards Mitigation Plan. This plan is a guide to
permanently reducing or eliminating short and long-term risk to people and their property
from the effects of hazards such as tornados, floods, severe storms, drought,
earthquakes and winter storms. The scope of the plan covers the municipalities and
unincorporated areas of Hennepin County for strategies, implementation and funding
alternatives. This plan is required under section 409 of the Robert T. Stafford Disaster
Relief and Emergency Assistance Act and has been formally adopted by each
participating entity and is required to be updated a minimum of every five years.
Recommendation: Currently, the plan has been updated with new risk assessment
information and new mitigation objectives, goals and strategies. St. Anthony's objectives
for the next 5 years include: installation of a new warning siren to cover park on the north
end of city, backup/store city files and records in alternate location and replace
undersized storm water pipes (on gong with street reconstruction). Participation in this
county wide plan is necessary to securing future grant funding for some mitigation
projects. For this reason I am requesting the city of St. Anthony adopt the Hennepin
County Hazard Mitigation plan by resolution at the earliest convenience.
Attachments:
- Summary of Hennepin County Multi -Jurisdictional All Hazard Mitigation Plan
- Letter from Hennepin County requesting adoption
Resolution 10-077; Adoption of the Hennepin County All -Hazard Mitigation Plan
Thank you for your consideration in extending our participation in this plan.
John Malenick, Fire Chief
a Page 1
