What measurable goals does your municipality have for waste reduction and recycling activities in 2011? Please describe
how progress toward these goals will be measured and evaluated. At least ONE measurable goal must be listed.
The City has an annual Spring Clean-up at the City's Public Works facility with staff assisting residents with their loads, making sure
that the items get sorted appropriately thus preventing comingling of garbage and recycling. The vendors at the event are also
required to submit the amounts they collected for recycling when they submit an invoice for payment. The measureable goal is that the
City continues to provide an opportunity to residents to recycle so that items can be recycled, reused or repaired and the various
vendors that participate provide the collection data to the City so our goals can be determined.
Staff is also working with haulers to report the tonnage amounts that they collect for recycling. These haulers are not all the same as
those that collect recyclables curbside so it is also educating them about tracking the amounts collected and participation, if they can
track that statistic. Including high-density housing recycling data gives the City a more accurate collection numbers for recycling.
2. Describe the activities a SCORE grant would be used for in your municipality and how these funds will enhance your
existing waste reduction and recycling programs. Identify expenses for activities within each applicable budget category.
The City of St. Anthony has a Reciprocal Use Agreement with Ramsey County so that our residents that live in the Hennepin portion of
the City can also take their yard waste to a site that is closer than their site in Hennepin County. The annual fee associated with this
Agreement is $5,000.
The City's other recycling activity for the City is its annual Spring Cleanup event held in May. Average uncompensated expenses for
the Clean-up event has been about $3,000. This amount is divided between Hennepin County and Ramsey County on a 68%/32%
split with Ramsey County's portion being approximately $960.00 for the Clean -Up event.
Throughout the year, the City also includes articles in the City's newsletter, The Village Notes, on recycling and reuse.
The newsletter costs the City approximately $16,159 in 2010 for printing and postage costs. Again, using the 68%/32% split, $5,171 is
the estimated amount that the City spends for Ramsey County residents to receive the newsletter.
PROPOSED SCORE BUDGET—SCORE EXPENSES ONLY
ADMINISTRATION Total:
$ 5000
Please detail activities and expenses:
Reciprocal Use Agreement for Compost
PROMOTION ACTIVITIES Total:
$_656
Please detail activities and expenses:
Newsletter Articles on Recycling
EQUIPMENT Total:
$
Please detail activities and expenses:
COLLECTION OF RECYCLABLES Total
$ 960
Please detail activities and expenses:
Annual Spring Clean -Up Event
TOTAL SCORE GRANT Requested $6 616_,____
