Page 5 of 5 <br />IN <br />developing these tools. <br />The statewide SHC services remain housed in Hennepin County. Our SHCs benefit from an <br />active, thriving state SHC because customers go to the website first, and then come in to our <br />SHCs with specific questions instead of needing explanations regarding the entire process. <br />About 30 percent of calls to the state SHC are from Hennepin County residents; individuals are <br />able to call or a -mail the MN Courts SHC service instead of coming downtown—which works <br />great for follow-up questions and people who need less help. <br />News and Notes <br />The Hennepin County bench continues to work closely with the HCBA to help lawyers <br />understand judicial decision making, develop courtroom skills, and learn the best courtroom <br />practices. Through the Master Trial Lawyers Practice Series and the Candid Conversations <br />Series, dozens of judges and hundreds of lawyers benefit from informational sessions and <br />practice opportunities. The bench also partnered with numerous firms, individual lawyers, <br />Legal Aid, and others to provide education and courtroom practice opportunities for hundreds <br />more attorneys. <br />Jim Campbell received the second annual Steven A. Pihlaja Justice Partner Award on October <br />4. He was honored for his exemplary volunteer work since 1995 as a mediator in Housing and <br />Harassment courts, as well as a Guardian ad Litem in Family and Juvenile courts. His efforts <br />have saved taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars over the years as he facilitated win-win <br />mediation outcomes. Jim's volunteer efforts help advance the Fourth Judicial District's vision <br />statement: "To be recognized as providing an accessible, fair, courteous, efficient and <br />innovative system of justice." <br />I am proud to say that my colleagues continue to be recognized for their outstanding service. <br />Judge Cara Lee Neville has been elected as the secretary of the American Bar Association. Her <br />term runs from August 2011 to August 2014. Judge Jay Quam received the 2010 HCBA Judicial <br />Professionalism Award. Judge Denise Reilly, along with her colleagues involved in the <br />Coleman/Franken election contest trial, received the Trial Judge of the Year Award from the <br />American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA).
