CITY OF ST. ANTHONY <br />STATE OF MINNESOTA <br />RESOLUTION 11-069 <br />RESOLUTION TO APPROVE A REQUF,ST TO KEEP <br />FOUR (4) FEMALE CHICKENS IN AN R-1 ZONING DISTRICT <br />WHEREAS, Staff received a request for information from Ms. Kay Steffenson, 2816 Coolidge Street <br />NE, about whether or not the City allows chickens in the residential zoning district; and <br />WHEREAS, The City of St. Anthony Code of Ordinances, Section 91.56,Keeping of Certain Animals, <br />specifies that livestock, including chickens, require approval from the City Council; and <br />WHEREAS, Ms. Steffenson has submitted a written request for approval from the City Council, as <br />outlined in Subsection 91.56, to approve her request to keep chickens; and <br />WHEREAS, Ms. Steffenson also stated that she has spoken with her neighbors and advised Staff that <br />they are not opposed to her family keeping chickens; and <br />WHEREAS, Ms. Steffenson described the enclosure that will house the chickens and that it will be <br />kept in the fenced back yard; and <br />WHEREAS, Hennepin County Environmental Health Division has stated that this matter is within the <br />City's jurisdiction and authority; and <br />WHEREAS, at the October 25, 2011 City Council meeting, the City Council approved Ms. Kay <br />Steffenson to have three (3) female chickens; and <br />WHEREAS, Ms. Kay Steffenson's original request was for four (4) female chickens. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of St. Anthony has reconsidered the request for <br />approval to keep four (4) female chickens in an R-1 Zoning District with the stipulation the homeowner <br />would not keep male roosters and do hereby approve this request from Ms. Kay Steffenson, dated <br />November 8, 2011. <br />Adopted this 8th day of November 2011. <br />ATTEST: <br />Mayor <br />City Clerk <br />Reviewed for administration: <br />Interim City Manager <br />15 <br />
