6City Council Regular Meeting Minutes <br />December 10, 2013 <br />Page 2 <br />1 Councilmember Roth thanked Fire Chief Malenick for his service and stated he has been <br />2 impressed with the way Fire Chief Malenick has handled himself in difficult situations, adding <br />3 he has always felt that the City and its residents were in good hands. He thanked Fire Chief <br />4 Malenick for his professionalism and dedication to the job. <br />5 <br />6 Councilmember Stille thanked Fire Chief Malenick for his years of service and stated he <br />7 appreciates how conscientious Fire Chief Malenick has always been and how personable and <br />8 approachable he has always been with residents. <br />9 <br />10 Councilmember Jenson thanked Fire Chief Malenick for his years of service and stated Fire <br />11 Chief Malenick's commitment to the Fire Department and his desire to serve the residents of St. <br />12 Anthony has always been evident. <br />13 <br />14 Mayor Faust thanked Fire Chief Malenick for his years of service and stated it was important that <br />15 the City promote from within whenever possible and the fact that there are people who are <br />16 qualified to follow in succession comes in no small part from Fire Chief Malenick's leadership. <br />17 He expressed appreciation to Fire Chief Malenick for his compassion and service and stated the <br />18 City feels a deep commitment to him and wishes him the very best in his retirement. <br />19 <br />20 Fire Chief Malenick requested that the City Council acknowledge all of the City's firefighters <br />21 and their families. <br />22 <br />23 Mayor Faust and City Manager Casey presented a recognition fire hydrant plaque to Fire Chief <br />24 Malenick. <br />25 <br />26 B. Recognition of New Fire Chief Mark Sitarz. <br />27 <br />28 City Manager Casey stated it was his great pleasure to hire the new Fire Chief and introduce <br />29 Mark Sitarz. He stated Fire Chief Sitarz was selected through a competitive process and <br />30 indicated Fire Chief Sitarz is a resident of St. Anthony and started as a paid on call firefighter in <br />31 1998 then became a full time firefighter in 2001. He stated Fire Chief Sitarz is probably most <br />32 proud of his role as a trainer and he and Fire Marshal Chris Fuller were recognized as Trainers of <br />33 the Year by the State Fire Marshal's office last year. <br />34 <br />35 Fire Chief Sitarz expressed thanks for the opportunity to serve as Fire Chief and thanked Retiring <br />36 Fire Chief Malenick for leaving the Fire Department in a very positive state and one that is <br />37 welcoming to him. He also thanked his wife, Sarah, for her support during this process. He <br />38 announced that Jay Olson has been named Assistant Fire Chief and Chris Fuller has been named <br />39 Fire Marshal. <br />40 <br />41 Mayor Faust extended the City Council's congratulations to Fire Chief Sitarz. <br />42 <br />43 C. Recognition of New Fireman Joe Benik. <br />44 <br />45 Fire Chief Sitarz stated that Joe Benik came from the Fire Department's part-time paid on call <br />46 ranks and was the top in his class. He then introduced Joe Benik as the City's newest full time <br />47 firefighter and also introduced Mr. Benik's wife, Britanny, and son, BJ. <br />
