Each grant participant will then receive project management
assistance and up to $500 to implement home modifi cations in to their home.
• Provide information and resources to participants on additional services that promote
aging in place.
• Provide assistance to participants for identifying and securing funding resources for
implementing aging in place modifi cations.
• Educate consumers and staff at each city and GMHC in universal design and aging in place
• Provide outreach at a variety of community settings
• Provide educational materials to industry professionals
During the course of the project, Access Solutions provided Home Safety Assessments and
Recommendations for improving safety and accessibility in the homes of twenty-fi ve (25) St.
Anthony Village residents. Each grant participant was then assisted in gathering estimates
and implementing recommended modifi cations. Common features that were implemented
include: grab bars, handrails, comfort height toilets, and hand held shower heads.
Access Solutions also provided four (4) community education sessions for residents to
provide information and resources about making homes safe to promote aging in place.
These sessions were free and open to the public.
In addition to the community education sessions, a seminar about Universal Design is
scheduled for the winter of 2014 to provide education to area professionals in the building
and remodeling industry about aging in place. This is an important outreach opportunity to
improve quality of life for residents and promote aging in place for our older residents.
