In Summary
2013 Annual Report · Fire Department · St. Anthony Village, Minnesota
13
In addition to the code violations received by the City, the Code Enforcement department also conducted 125
rental inspections in 2013. This was nine more inspections than completed in 2012, and four more than 2011.
Rental Inspections
Code Violation Complaints
In Summary
2013 was a year of positive transition for the St. Anthony Fire Department. After 25 years with the department,
Fire Chief John Malenick retired in December and Interim Captain Mark Sitarz was named his replacement.
Jay Olson and Chris Fuller who were both in interim positions since 2012 with the department were officially
promoted to Assistant Chief and Fire Marshal. Firefighter Joe Benik was hired from the part-time ranks as the
newest full-time employee and 9 rookies were brought on-board in December. The department also had its highest
number of calls for service at 1409.
City Code Enforcement had a busy year with both areas of Housing Code and Rental Code having an increased
number of reports. The goal of educating the public upon receipt of a violation is something that we are holding
true to and we will continue to do so knowing that aids in decreasing complaints.
This past year’s transition allowed us to successfully complete the goals of the previous administration and put
into place a new focus and direction for 2014. Building trust through education and interaction from an increase
in community involvement and presence is one of many new goals you will see coming from your Fire Department
and Code Enforcement for the new year.
0
20
40
60
80
100
120
140
160
180
200
Vegetation Miscellaneous Parking
Violation/Expired
Tabs
Signs Structure/Yard
Maintenance
Garbage/Refuse Total
2011 43 17 22 31 22 33 168
2012 39 21 19 19 3 19 120
2013 63 39 35 22 16 7 182
Nu
m
b
e
r

o
f

C
o
m
p
l
a
i
n
t
s
Code Violation Complaints
