IV. Sustainability <br />2013 Annual Report · Publc Works Department · St. Anthony Village, Minnesota <br />9 <br />GREENCORP MEMBER <br />Launched in 2009, Minnesota GreenCorps is a statewide program to help preserve and protect <br />Minnesota’s environment while training a new generation of environmental professionals. <br />This program places AmeriCorps members with local governments, educational institutions, <br />and non-profit organizations around Minnesota, where they serve for 11 months on focused <br />environmental projects. This program is coordinated by the Minnesota Pollution Control <br />Agency. <br />In 2012 the City was selected to be a host community as part of an application process. <br />Nick Voss, an AmeriCorps member, began his internship with the City of St. Anthony Village, <br />which extended into 2013. <br />INTERN <br />In 2013, Nicole Nissen-Hooper, a Sustainability and Complex Systems major at the University <br />of Minnesota, served as an intern. Nicole assisted in the coordination of the tri-community <br />Sustainability Festival. In addition to assisting in coordinating this event, Nicole has been <br />contributing to the City’s overall recycling program , working with staff on the carp removal <br />program at Silver Lake, keeping the “sustainability tab” on the City’s website current, helping <br />plan the City’s Clean-Up day, helping plan the rain barrel seminar and finazlizing stormwawter <br />projects.
