RESOLUTION 14-042
RESOLUTION TO APPROVE A REQUEST TO KEEP
FIVE (5) FEMALE CHICKENS IN AN R-1 ZONING DISTRICT
AT 3520 EDWARD STREET
WHEREAS, staff received a request from Valentina and Alexander Poletz, about
whether or not the City allows chickens in the residential zoning
district; and
WHEREAS, the City of St. Anthony Code of Ordinances, Section 91.56,Keeping of
Certain Animals, specifies that livestock, including chickens, require
approval from the City Council; and
WHEREAS, Valentina and Alexander Poletz has submitted a written request for
approval from the City Council, as outlined in Subsection 91.56, to
approve his request to keep chickens; and
WHEREAS, Hennepin County Environmental Health Division has stated that
this matter is within the City's jurisdiction and authority; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of St.
Anthony approves the request to keep five (5) female chickens in an R-1 Zoning
District at 3520 Edward Street

Dear City Council:
This spring we would like to purchase and raise in our back yard five chicks/hens. We
would provide a secure chicken coop with an enclosed run for our chickens. Our
closest neighbor, Beverly Johnson, has no objections.
Please let us know if there are any rules or guidelines that we should follow as to the
style, size or the location of the chicken coop in our back yard. Thank you very much.

Dear City Council:
Enclosed is a drawing of a chicken coop design for our chickens. Our intent is to
provide for our chickens a healthy, secure, attractive, and easy to maintain environment.
Chicken coop design details:
1. Dimensions (width x length x height)
The overall dimensions of the "house" are 4'x4'x8' and the "run" are 4'x6'x6'.
2. Construction materials
Regular 5/8" plywood, pine or cedar 2x4s and boards, chicken wire to enclose
the "run" and space under the "house", roofing paper, small window, linoleum
over plywood for easy cleaning, and 2 (8x10") wheels.
3. Special feature
This chicken coop is mobile; it can be easily moved from one location to another
just by lifting the moving handles and pushing, pulling, or turning.
