RESOLUTION REQUESTING METROPOLITAN COUNCIL
TASK FORCE TO REVIEW GROUND WATER USAGE IN
METROPOLITAN AREA .
WHEREAS, the City of St. Anthony and numerous other cities
depend on deep wells for water supplies for their citizens and
industry, and
WHEREAS, the Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul are either in
the process or contemplating drilling wells to supplement their
water supplies taken from surface sources, and
WHEREAS, there are various other uses of ground water includ-
ing irrigation and air conditioning, and
WHEREAS, continued exploitation of this valuable resource could
deplete or drastically reduce its availability
• NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City
of St. Anthony does request that the Metropolitan Council create a
task force to investigate the total usage of underground water in
the metropolitan area and the possible consequences of continued un-
disciplined use and evaluate methods to be initiated to preserve
this valuable resource.
