RESOLUTION NO. 68-025
• RESOLUTION CONCERNING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF
A SECOND METROPOLITAN AIRPORT
14HEREAS the Metropolitan Airport Commission has proposed to estab-
lish a new airport to serve the metropolitan area of Minneapolis and St. Paul ,
and
UHEREAS, the decision making process as to location of the airport
site has been made by officials who are not representative of the residents
of the suburban metropolitan communities which will be directly affected
by air traffic at the two proposed sites designated as the South Site in
Blaine and the North Site located primarily in Ham Lake Township, and,
WHEREAS, newspaper reports indicate the other sites designated
as the Isanti , Farmington and others do not appear to be under serious
consideration, and
l-hiEREAS, the location of a large metropolitan airport in close
proximity to residentially developed areas is an imposition and an unwise
disruption of existing developments,
NOId THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Village Council of St. Anthony:
1. Oppose the establishment of the airport site known as the
South Site.
• 2. Endorse the enactment by the Minnesota Legislature of a
bill to provide for political representation on the Metrop-
olitan Airports Commission provided by elected representation
of residents of the Seven County Metropolitan Area.
3. Request a more detailed analysis of the traffic patterns of
present and known aircraft, and of aircraft expected to be
built in the immediate future.
4. Require the Metropolitan Airports Commission to disclose
all public investments in land and facilities at the North
Site, and the South Site.
5. If it appears that only the North Site and the South Site
are under serious consideration, the Council favors the
North Site.
6. The Village Mayor, Manager, and attorney be directed to
appear at hearings of the Metropolitan Airports Commission
and other public bodies to express the opposition of the
St. Anthony Village Council to the South Site and the
North Site.
