Whereas, the City Council deems that the extent of repairs, as proposed by the Public Works Department, is proper and necessary. When the pump was repaired in 1973, the pump was changed and it was specified the cheapest pump that could be purchased and now we are experiencing more repairs . I recommend that we replace the existing steel couplings and bronze spiders with cast steel couplings. By doing this we will insure better service of our pump and should be able to cut down on the wearing of parts in the future. tWe need 21 10'' x 1-11/16'' combination couplings ($221 each -- $4651 ) . We do have the option to rciace some of the steel coupling this time and the remainder the next time we pull tiie pump. I -2- We should paint all of the column pip to cut down on corrosion and try to get longer life out of our columns. In 1973 we replaced all of the column pipe and this time we have to replace 21 . The cost of sandblasting and painting the columns is $65 per ten foot section. We should at least paint the sections that are in the water, if we need an option. If we do what I recommend, we will have a cost of about $17,211 .05. 1 budgeted $10,000. 1 need a decision as soon as possible so we can get the well back in good working order.
