Process:
We open the applications to all residents. All applicants are being interviewed tonight. The chosen applicants will be
appointed by the City Council. You will receive a phone call either way.
Questions for the Planning Commission:
1.The Planning Commission requires a commitment monthly, on the third Tuesday of the month, along with
potential of various workshops and attendance at some Council meetings. Do you foresee any problems
attending these meetings on a regular basis?
2.Please explain your interest in serving on the Commission.
3.What do you see is the fundamental role of the Commission?
4.What is the one thing that would make St. Anthony Village a better place to live?
5.Have you served on other boards or commissions? Please describe those experiences.

1.The Parks & Environmental Commission requires a commitment quarterly, typically the first Monday of the
month, along with potential of various workshops and attendance at some Council meetings. Do you foresee any

Why do you want to serve on a St. Anthony Village Commission?*
I want to continue to serve on the St. Anthony Village planning commission, because I have a tremendous amount of
knowledge and energy to contribute to the residents of St. Anthony in this capacity. I have 24 years of experience working
with commercial real estate and related land use issues and working as a public servant. Both areas of experience have
served me well on the planning commission, and can continue to do so for another term.
I enjoy reading and learning about all things commercial real estate and many urban land use issues. To maintain my
assessor's license, I am required to take 60 hours of continuing education every 4 years on topics related to these issues and
property taxes.
I am currently the Interim Deputy Director of the Ramsey County Assessor's Department, and prior to that served as the
commercial property manager for 9 years.

Besides serving on the Saint Anthony Planning Commission since January of 2020, I have served in various capacities on
several committees in my career. Most recently, I represented the Assessor's Department in setting service team related
performance measures, and am co-leading an effort to change the organizational structure of the department. Since 2013, I
have represented the department in annual meetings with metro area assessors to discuss upcoming commercial, industrial
and multi-family property value adjustments. In the past year, I have also served as a panelist or presented at two St. Paul
Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) meetings, and a St. Paul Midway Chamber of Commerce Meeting.

I have both a personal and professional interest in the development of our community. Professionally, as an Architect, I
understand first hand planning and land use in creating livable communities. As an resident living in SAV, I am interested in
our environment, how we exist in it, individually and together as a greater community, and what we can do to make it better in
the future. I would be excited for the opportunity to participate on the Planning Commission.

My experience with City Councils, Planning Commissions and Architectural Review Boards has been on the other side as a
representative for Clients. The projects I’ve worked on are varied, ie. single family variances, rezoning for multi-family and
commercial uses, architectural and historical design review, etc. What this experience has given me is an knowledge of city
code, ordinances, comprehensive plans, etc., what they are and how they work. Even though I have not served on a board
(yet), I think my professional experience along with my personal interest would be an asset to the Planning Commission.

To whom it may concern,
I am very eager to in join the Parks & Environmental commission for a number of reasons but first and foremost is to actively
serve the community in which I live. I find purpose in serving others and the opportunity to contribute to the City of St. Anthony
Village Parks & Environmental commission is a great step towards fulfilling my vocation.
My interest in community planning, local land use, and government processes also draws me towards this opportunity. I care
deeply about environmental issues and land use in my daily interactions with my family, neighbors, and local business owners.
The opportunity to continue advocacy for green spaces and environmental sustainability throughout our city in a more formal
role is of great importance.
Being an active participant in the decision-making process is another reason I am eager to join the commission. I will work to
bring diverse thought and having voices from different backgrounds given representation in the conversation.

Why do you want to serve on a St. Anthony Village Commission?*
My background as a licensed Landscape Architect gives me the solid background and relevant experience to provide insight
through this lens. My interest in connecting communities to parks has proven pivotal for progressive and livable communities,
in addition to establishing tangential learning opportunities.
I am a relatively new resident of the City of St Anthony Village and as a recent father, I have a vested interest in the future of
our parks and environment. Having the opportunity to serve on the St Anthony Village Parks and Environmental Commission
would allow me a voice in future decision-making discussions regarding the City of St Anthony Village. Also, being involved in
the Parks and Environmental Commission would provide an opportunity to serve the community prolifically.

My previous experience has not provided an opportunity to serve on a board or commission professionally. However, I am an
active member of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Minnesota Chapter. Participation within this
organization has provided me with diverse experience and expertise to stay abreast of landscape architecture and urban
design best practices. A new best practice among communities connecting people to parks and inviting new audiences to

I have been a long-time environmentally concerned citizen, mother and parkgoer. Having lived in St Anthony for over 10 years,
and 9 years in Northeast Minneapolis before, I love our community and would like to contribute to helping it continue being a
wonderful city for sustainable living and prosperity for future generations.
I am passionate about being a responsible steward of our natural resources – especially feeling strongly about biking or
walking (vs. driving) whenever possible, recycling, composting, conserving resources and protecting the environment.

I am currently the Treasurer (entering my 4th year) on the St. Anthony Boosters Baseball Board. In the past, I have also
served on the University of Minnesota Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering Advisory Board as an industry advisor.
While not having served directly on any Parks or Environmental Committees or Commissions in the past, I have many relevant
skills and experiences that I believe make me a good candidate for the seat, including:
• Being a Chemical Engineer by education and training: I am data-driven and take a science-based, analytical approach to
problem-solving. I have also helped develop numerous technological solutions in food processing from research &
development to commercialization.
• Having served many leadership roles in my career, I have effectively bridged technical and non-technical teams. I managed
teams of engineers and technical people, while working closely with a broad spectrum of multidisciplinary functions.
• Being an all-around strong collaborator with great communication skills, I like to harmonize differing viewpoints and
synthesize them into a plan to move forward.
• Having an aptitude for project management and strategy development, I effectively organize people and tasks behind a
common goal.

Why do you want to serve on a St. Anthony Village Commission?*
I am interested in engaging our community in discussions about planning for our future and advising council on ways in which
we can improve the environment and community in which we live. I think our parks can be enhanced to attract a broader body
of our community and bolstered to adapt with the changing climate. I think we as a city need to create a long-term plan to
achieve our sustainability goals, and reach out to help our residents learn about climate adaptation and what they can do in
their homes to plan for the future.

I currently serve on the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization Citizens Advisor Commission where we review the
annual budget, make recommendations on capital grant proposals, and assist with planning and outreach.
I serve as the head election judge in SAV Hennepin County Precinct 2. I attend training to stay current with regulations. I
oversee election administration and election judges. I manage issues that arise throughout the day, dealing with the public, city
administrators, and election officials.
I served on ISD 282 Wellness Committee from 2014-2018 where I influenced policy that promotes students’ health and well-
being, established a wellness goal related to the health of the schoolyard and environmental footprint of facilities, and wrote
grant applications for funds to expand schoolyard gardening and environmental education.

I have lived in St Anthony since 1967. I currently live on Mirror Lake. I have observed the excellent environmental work
around the lake. I would like to see similar work continued around the Village.
I have a PhD in Biomedical Engineering and recently retired as Professor in the Medical School at the University of Minnesota.
I believe I have technical skills that could help with some issues.

Many years ago I served on an environmental committee in St Anthony. I am a long term member of the Union of Concerned
Scientists. At the University of Minnesota I have served on many committees. For 20 years I served on Institutional Review
