All applicants are being interviewed tonight. The chosen applicants will be appointed by the City Council. You will receive a phone call either way. Questions for the Parks Commission: 1.Please tell us about yourself and your interest in serving on the Parks and Environmental Commission. 2.St. Anthony has aging parks and a new Climate Action Plan we will have to prioritize. Describe a time when you had to prioritize long-term projects versus short-term initiatives. 3.What is your opinion of the importance of public engagement in the decision-making process and how would you go about soliciting input from the community? 4.The Commission is sometimes asked to consider topics that may not be supported by all residents. Why do you want to serve on a St. Anthony Village Commission?* I want to serve on the Saint Anthony Village Parks and Environmental Commission so that I can advocate for preserving and improving our city's natural resources. I am passionate about environmental education and sustainability and want to take an active role in the city’s climate plan. As a Holistic Family Nurse Practitioner, I come to the table with an understanding of how the environment impacts human health and will always advocate for what is best for the health of our community. I am proud to have the legacy of my Aunt (Andrea Lambercht) serving on the Saint Anthony Village Parks and Environmental Commission as a Naturalist many years ago. I am completing my doctoral studies at Augsburg University in Transcultural Leadership. My doctoral program focuses on taking the most up-to-date research and implementing it into clinical practice; a scientific practice that directly translates when considering how to execute environmental and climate plans. 2. When completing my Masters of Science at New York University I served as the president of the Nursing Students for Global Health group. This gave me experience in leadership as well as a greater understanding of the interconnected relationship between environmental and human health. I was not born and raised in St Anthony, but am devoted to the area and making this my “forever home.” Moving here in 2020, I’ve seen this community move through challenges, celebrate wins, and become what the community needs. I am hopeful that the Parks department is a good place to start working more in the community I live in. As an outgrowth of those meetings, I launched and now lead the annual Buy Nothing Toy Store event. As a political consultant to 3 direct candidates and 10+ campaigns, I have provided policy oversight, strategy, and communications services. Currently, I serve on the Executive Board of the World Federation of Friends of Museums (WFFM), the global representative of 2M+ museum-goers: preserving, curating, and celebrating cultural heritage. Why do you want to serve on a St. Anthony Village Commission?* I wish to serve on the Parks & Environmental Commission because of my interest in our parks (my 2 children utilize them more and more) and to oversee/make recommendations to city council. Since late 2013, I’ve been an active member of Citizens for Sustainability and have appreciated our group’s increasing ability to work alongside the city through this commission and occasionally, city staff. I provide updates to the commission about CFS events & projects as a regular agenda item, and discuss how we can support the commission’s work plan--like with the adoption of the climate plan. Through this experience, I have learned so much about the city and am excited to bring my energy to this commission! As a business analyst for the University of Minnesota, I advocate for our college’s constituents by learning about their process, identifying trouble areas, collaborating on goals, and facilitating activities to reach our shared outcomes. Citizens for Sustainability (2013-present) - co-chair CFS promotes sustainability initiatives in St. Anthony Village and surrounding communities while actively participating in initiatives that bring about positive changes through community collaborations.
