HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 26-029 - Accepting the FY2024 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) for Installation of New Fire Station Exhaust Removal SystemCITY OF SAINT ANTHONY VILLAGE RESOLUTION 26-029 A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING THE FY2024 ASSISTANCE TO FIREFIGHTERS GRANT (AFG) FOR INSTALLATION OF NEW FIRE STATION EXHAUST REMOVAL SYSTEM WHEREAS, diesel exhaust exposure is a well -documented occupational hazard for firefighters, with prolonged exposure linked to serious long-term health impacts; and WHEREAS, the St. Anthony Fire Department has a history of a firefighter line -of -duty death — Bill Meyers, whose death was ultimately attributed to chronic exposure to exhaust fumes within the fire station; and WHEREAS, modern exhaust capture systems significantly reduce these risks by removing harmful emissions directly at the source, improving air quality and protecting firefighter health and safety; and WHEREAS, the purpose of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program is to protect the health and safety of the public and firefighting personnel against fire and fire - related hazards; and WHEREAS, city staff applied for an Assistance to Firefighters Grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to purchase and install a new fire station exhaust removal system; and WHEREAS, FEMA has determined that the application submitted was consistent with the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program's purpose and was worthy of an award; and WHEREAS, the FY2024 Assistance to Firefighters Grant has been approved in the amount of $76,190.47 in Federal funding, with a condition that the City is required to contribute non -Federal funds equal to or greater than 5.00% of the Federal funds awarded, or $3,809.53 for a total approved budget of $80,000.00. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of City of Saint Anthony Village, Minnesota accepts the FY2024 Assistance to Firefighters Grant in the amount of $76,190.47 and authorizes city staff to execute any necessary grant agreements and related documents to proceed with the purchase and installation of the exhaust removal system.
