1875 <br />REGULAR MEETING FEBRUARY 27s 19b3 <br />The regular meeting was called to order at 7:00 P.&S. with the foll.ow~ing <br />members being present: Harold C. Nilsen, Mayor; George Shavor, Trustee; <br />Wi11is Warkentien, Trustee; and W. A. Mortenson, Clerk.. Also present <br />were William E. Olsen, Treasurer; Brad Lemberg, Village Engineer; ri3.chael <br />Galvin, Village Attorney and Norman Gilbert, Deputy Clerk and Deputy <br />Treasurer. <br />Mrs. Peter Torvik and Mrs. William Shepard were present as representatives <br />of the League of Women Voters of Falcon Heights. <br />Traffic Meeting: Mr. Van Krevelen, Assistant District Engineer, and <br />Perry Plank, District Traffic Engineer, from the <br />State Highway Department were present to review the <br />traffic problem at Snelling and Larpenteur, especially <br />pedestrain control and safety. Improvements discussed <br />were (1) Better definition and marking of crosswalks, <br />{2} A ~~signal phase~~ for pedestrains, (3} stag cars <br />further back from intersection, (~.) f~crossarmtt <br />signals, (5) better use of service roads and (b) <br />stricter traffic rule enforcement. <br />Crosswalk Lightr Bids were opened for a new "crosswalk signalt~ an <br />ing Signals: Larpenteur near Snelling. It was moved by N31sen <br />and seconded by Shavor that the engineer tabulate <br />the bids - gassed <br />1. Commorrnealth Electric Co. X738. <br />2. Tieso Electric Co. 997. <br />3. Bat$li Fs7.ectric Co. 7l~9. <br />On the recommendation:of Brad Lemberg it was moved <br />by Willis Warkentien, seconded by George Shavor that <br />the contract be awaxded to the lowest bidder, Common- <br />wealth Electric Co., for the bid of $738. -Passed <br />Street Lightings Mayor Nilsen recommended we renew our study of <br />further street 1i.ghting in accordance with a past <br />study and to review such plans at the next regular <br />meeting. <br />Civil Defense: Willis Warkentien moved, seconded by George Shavor <br />that we purchase a 1951 - 3/!~ ton panel truck as a <br />mobile radio station for Civil. Defense. Such a truck <br />is available under Government Surplus Properties for <br />~t5. -Passed <br />Arthur Jorgenson: Arthur Jorgenson was present to state his plans for <br />a 10 fami_1y, 22 story apartment on his 2 vacant lots <br />
