CITY OF FALCON HEIGHTS <br />Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a regular meeting of the City <br />Council of the City of Falcon Heights, Minnesota, was held on the 10th day of <br />April , 1975. <br />The following members were present: Mayor Warkentien, Councilmen Black, <br />Ecklund, Steele, and Labalestra, and the following were absent: None. <br />Mayor T~?arkentien introduced the following Resolution, and moved its <br />adoption: <br />RESOLUTION #75-13 <br />A RESOLUTION SUPPORTIP'C7 LEGISLATION PROPOSED BY <br />GO~JERNOR ANDERSON TO DISTRIBUTE RAILROAD AND <br />TELEPHONE GROSS EARNINGS TAXES TO COUD?TIES, <br />CITIES, AND TOWNSHIPS <br />WHE'-ZEAS, property taxes tend to be highest and most burdensome in cities, <br />and in the absence of some action by the state legislature, municipal property taxes <br />in the City of Falcon Heights will increase in 1976 and 1977, and <br />i` <br />r~ <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of Falcon Heights strongly favors the reduction <br />of municipal property taxes, and the most feasible way of accomplishing this without <br />drastically reducing essential municipal services is through the distribution of rail- <br />road and telephone gross earnings taxes to cities as proposed by Governor Anderson, and <br />WHEREAS, local units of government receive no property taxes or other taxes <br />. from railroad or telephone property, and the City o_f_ Falcon Heights will receive <br />approximately $28,51.87 under the proposed distribution of telephone and railroad <br />gross earnings in 1976, and <br />WHEREAS, this method of tax reduction is preferable to other alternatives <br />being considered, <br />NOW THEREFORE, 8E IT HEREBY RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of <br />Falcon Heights respectfully urges the Minnesota State Legislature to distribute all of <br />the telephone and railroad gross earnings taxes, amounting to $1~6 million in 1976, and <br />$~.9 million in 1977, to local units of government as proposed by Governor Anderson, and <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the <br />Governor of the State of Minnesota, Members of the State Legislature, and the League <br />of Minnesota Municipalities. <br />The motion for the adoption of the foregoing Resolution was seconded by <br />Councilman Steele, and upon a vote being taken, the following voted in favor thereof; <br />Mayor Warkentien, Councilmen Black, Stee1~~, and Labalestra, and the following voted <br />against the same: Councilman Ecklund. <br />WHEREUPON, the Resolution was declared duly passed and adopted. <br />Passed by the City Council this 10th ay of April, 1975. <br />WILLIS C.
