CITY OF FALCON HEIGHTS <br />Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a special meeting of the City Council <br />of the City of Falcon Heights, Minnesota, was held on the 28th day of February, 1977. <br />• The following members were present: Mayor Warkentien, Councilmen Black, <br />Ecklund, Steele and Labalestra and the following members were absent: None. <br />Councilman Steele introduced the following Resolution and moved its adoption. <br />RESOLUTION 77-8 <br />A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING SENATE FILE 103 INTRODUCED <br />BY SENATOR ROBERT M. BENEDICT OF DISTRICT 38, PUTT- <br />ING A MORATORIUM ON THE TAXING OF HOME IMPROVEMENTS <br />WHEN THE SQUARE FOOTAGE IS NOT INCREASED. <br />1r~iEREAS, the State of Minnesota is currently involved in a severe energy <br />shortage; and <br />V~iEREAS, a critical need for moderate income housing is projected for at <br />least the next two decades; and <br />WHEREAS, it is far less costly to encourage citizens to upgrade existing <br />housing that it is for government to attempt to renovate neighborhoods; and <br />WHEREAS, it is essential that the State stop discouraging people from im- <br />proving their own property. <br />THER~'ORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Falcon Heights does hereby <br />support the concept of Senate File 103 that would put a moratorium on the tax- <br />• ing of home improvements as long as the square footage living area was not in- <br />creased and the property is five or more years old. <br />The motion for the adoption of the foregoing Resolution was duly seconded <br />by Councilman Black and upon a vote being taken the following voted in favor <br />thereof: Mayor Warkentien, Councilmen Black, Ecklund, Steele and Labalestra <br />and the following voted against the same: None. <br />Tr~iEREUPON, the motion was declared duly passed and adopted. <br />~- <br />~ ~~ <br />~r .; <br />~~/;' ~ JG ~~ _ <br />WILLIS C.
