• Resolution 99-21 <br />City of Falcon Heights <br />RESOLUTION 99-21 <br />Elimination of the Fire Marshal Position in the 2000 Budget <br />WHEREAS, the city created the fire marshal position in 1986; and <br />WHEREAS, during the budget process the city council determined that funds for <br />the fire marshal position were required for other city services; and <br />WHEREAS, the city administrator can assume the responsibilities related to <br />emergency management, civil defense and other necessary public safety <br />activities; and <br />WHEREAS, the BLS ambulance service is being terminated in 1999; and <br />WHEREAS, the services of fire prevention and fire inspections are available <br />through a contract for service for approximately $7,500 a year; and <br />WHEREAS, the 1999 salary and benefits for the fire marshal position are <br />• $42,895; and <br />WHEREAS, eliminating the position and contracting for the fire prevention and <br />inspection services will save the city a minimum of $35,395; and <br />WHEREAS, the estimated savings of $35,395 is needed to support other city <br />services; <br />THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the city council of Falcon Heights that the <br />fire marshal position be eliminated effective at the end of the day on December <br />31, 1999 and <br />THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the city council of Falcon Heights that if a <br />vacancy occurs in the position of fire marshal prior to December 31,1999 that the <br />vacancy not be filled for the remainder of 1999. <br />Moved by: Jacobs ~ in favor o a ainst <br />Gehrz Approved by: ; <br />Gibson Talbot Mayor Sue Gehrz <br />H ustad <br />Jacobs Attested by: <br />• Kuettel Susan Hoyt <br />Administrator/City Clerk <br />
