•
MINUTES
PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION
APRIL 1, 1985
(No, these minutes are not a joke!)
A meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was called to order by Floyd
Bedbury, Chairman, at 7:00 PM.
Members present: Floyd Bedbury, Tom Montain, Paul Nelson, Keith Moderson,
and Annette Geistfeld.
1. Debbie Trent-Sullivan and Connie Lasser were in attendance to express their
concerns about the Falcon Heights recreation program. In summary, these
were as follows:
* not enough program offerings throughout the year
* more offerings needed for girls
* more offerings for preschoolers
* after school programs
* wages paid to employees were higher than the surrounding areas
* need to get better qualified employees
* need to have more employee evaluation
use the money spent on programs more wisely
* need to emphasize sportsmanship
* list criteria and objectives for each offering
* use Roseville and Maplewood programs as resources and models
* better utilize volunteers
2. Salaries for summer employees were discussed. Debbie Trent-Sullivan and
Connie Lasser stated that Roseville and Falcon Heights were paying their
employees minimum wage. Perhaps $7.50/hour is too much for the supervisor.
Floyd Bedbury expressed concern that we would be open to a law suit if the
salary were decreased. As this is Laura Luttrell's first year as supervisor,
the committee recommended a $6.00/hr. wage for the supervisor, $4.25/hr. for
second year employees, and $4.00/hr, for first year employees.
3. Schedule fQr spccor and T-ball will be handled by Floyd Bedbury and
Laura Luttrell.
4. A discussion followed concerning interesting further a licants for
our summer positions. The position will be posted unti May 10. The
Placement Bureau at the University and at Hamline will be contacted.
5. The Bike Safety Program plans were discussed. The tentitive date is
May ~- One program will be at the Falcon Heights Learning Center from
10:00-12:00 and another at the City Hall from 2:00-4:00. The suggested
alternative date is May 25. We need to advertise the Bike Clinics in
the schools and public places.
6. Paul Ciernia will set up the schedule for First Aid Training for summer
employees.
