MINUTES <br />PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br />• May 6, 1985 <br />Called to order by Floyd Bedbury. <br />Members present: Floyd Bedbury, Tom Montain, The Sinclairs, Keith Moderson, <br />Carol Parks, Paul l~elson, Tom Ammann, Connie Lasser, Laura Luttrell <br />Guest: Ardis Hutchins <br />Keith Moderson gave a brief update on progress and preparation for Bike Day <br />scheduled for May 11, 1985. <br />(1) Ardis Hutchins has volunteered to do a user survey for the Park and <br />Recreation Commission to identify the needs and desires of those who use <br />the parks . <br />(2) Floyd will investigate the issue involving the variance at the Grove to see <br />what the prospects are for generating additional park and recreation financing. <br />(3) Floyd mentioned the need to review expenditures for p~.yground equipment <br />at the Hole-Grove. This item may be put on hold pending the outcome of the <br />user survey. <br />(l~) The issue regarding maintenance of the park running course was <br />discussed. Floyd will discuss repair of this facility with Rick Cox. <br />• Sh~.xley will be asked to publicize the need for volunteers to work on <br />such maintenance projects. <br />(5) Tom Ammann raised the issue of tennis court lighting and has suggested <br />a master timer be installed to limit use of lighting to 11:00 P.M. Vince, <br />in Maintenance, will be asked to investigate options for a special master <br />timing device. <br />(6) Carol Parks will develop a checklist for repair and regular maintenance <br />needs for park prop arty and equipment. List will be utilized by maintenance <br />people for regular once per year maintenance. <br />(7) Lori Luttrell suggested that the trap door at the loft still poses a <br />hazard and needs repair. This is the second request and this item needs <br />attention. <br />(8) Ardis Hutchins has suggested that a master plan be developed for <br />the green space at the Grove. S'he recommends that the University of <br />Minnesota architectural students be given an opportunity to develop <br />plans as a student project. <br />(9) Floyd requested that the Falconeers be allowed to use City Ha11 chairs <br />for outdoor picnics and social functions for more comfortable seating. <br />• <br />
