• PARK & RECREATION COMMISSION
SEPTEMBER 8, 1986
MINUTES
Members present: Leo and Jean Ohman, Ardis Hutchins, Bob Gehrz,
Tom Montain, Connie Lasser, Pat Bush, Paul
Ciernia, council liaison
Members absent: Paul Nelson, Keith Moderson, Tom Amman, Floyd Bedbury
Meeting called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Connie Lasser, Chair.
1. Community Park bathrooms - At the August meeting the Commission
discussed the park bathrooms being locked and asked Pat to
check into options. Pat contacted several communities and
found that they all had suffered vandalism and the bathrooms
were locked unless the park was rented by a group. One solution
used by some communities was the use of satelites. The cost of
this was checked-out by Pat, a one time delivery charge of
$36 and a monthly charge of X92, this includes weekly maintaince
and insurance. Pat also reported that a key to the bathrooms
was available at the City Hall to any citizen who requests it.
The Commission decided to discuss this further next spring.
• 2. Grove Park up-date - Pat reported that they have started
grading, the new equipment installed, sand placed, benches
and tables ordered. The Grove Association, 1666 Coffman and
the Parks and Recreation Commission are going to jointly
participate in celebrating the new park. The date will be
Sunday, October 19, at 2:00 p.m. Further details will be
worked out and discussed at the next meeting.
3. Fall & Winter programs - The fall program flyers came out to
the schools on Monday, September 8. We discussed the flyers
sent home and how using the City Newsletter would be the most
effective way of communicating in the community. The timing
of the newsletter is of concern to us. Paul Ciernia is going
to check into re-scheduling the newsletter.
4. Adult reimbursement - The Commission reviewed our policy of
reimbursement for Falcon Heights residents of the non-resident
fee charged by Roseville. We decided to reimburse adults as
well as children, there have only been a few for adults.
5. Bike paths - The Commission has noted that probably the most
popular recreation by residents was walking. We also have a
great number of joggers, runners and bikers. It was also
noted the popularity of the asphalt bike path on Roselawn between
Snelling and Fairview. The commission would like to have a
committee meet with the Planning Commission to discuss working
together on a long range plan. Connie Lasser will contact
the Chair of the Planning Commission, Dave Black to discuss this.
