,s • MINUTES Park and Recreation Commission January 12, 1987 Members Present: Bob Gehrz, Paul Nelson, Tom Montain, Connie Lasser, Pat Bush and Paul Ciernia, Council Liaison Members Absent: Floyd Bedbury, Ardis Hutchins, Leo & Jean Ohman Meeting called to order at 7:00 P.t4. by Connie Lasser, Chairperson. 1. Rinks With colder weather in sight, rink flooding will continue. Idaho/Snelling and Falcon Heights Community park rinks have received a lot of use. Some issues regarding flooding, ice quality and safety were discussed. 2. Rink at the Grove Discussion was continued regarding a security light at the Grove • rink. Pat Bush reported she had checked some preliminary costs of $1,200 to $2,800 to install a timing mechanism and security light. Another option is to have Northern States Power install a light that is on continuously. Northern States Power will do the installation at no charge. However, there would be a utility fee of about $25 a month. 3. Winter Festival This will be held January 25, 1987 from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. at the Falcon Heights Community Park. Information will be distributed in the newsletter, at school, and on cable television. Refreshments will be provided. Possibly part of the event may be video-taped and shown at a later date. 4. Winter Program Pat Bush reported on the programs being sponsored. Some classes were dropped for lack of attendance. The Committee discussed whether or not the after school programs should be run by Roseville Schools rather than Falcon Heights Park and Recreation. This item will be continued. We should try to find our niche in terms of age group, type of classes to offer, etc. 5. Bus Shelter at Grove Park This was considered as an alternate to a warming house at the Grove Park. The University of Minnesota is somewhat receptive to this idea. There are no MTC shelters that can be used. We don't have a firm bid, but the cost looks to be around $2,500 - $3,500. Pat Bush will attempt to secure a more exact cost.
