CITY OF FALCON HEIGHTS <br />PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br />MEETING MINUTES <br />May 11, 1998 <br />Members Present: Peter Lindstrom, Greg Schaefer, Carol Kriegler <br />Members Absent: Donna Daykin, Lois Millett, Nancy Wickem, Laura Kuettel, <br />REPORTS, REQUESTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS: <br />D-1. Planning for Curtiss Field neighborhood ice cream social and the <br />"Annual Falcon Heights Ice Cream Social". <br />Curtiss Field event is to include ice cream novelties, cup cakes /cookies, <br />lemonade and sno cones. Carol Kriegler to request fire department and <br />police personnel participation. Greg Schaefer to check into local group for <br />entertainment. <br />Greg will also check into the possibility of a local group for the ice cream <br />social. It was agreed that entertainment should have a fairly wide audience <br />appeal. Carol Kriegler to produce a schedule for work shifts by commission <br />members (ticket sales, servers, etc.). Will also look into the possibility of <br />• having a clown attend. <br />D-2. Continued discussion of possible improvements to the Community Park <br />fitness station course. <br />In regards to the option of reconstructing the fitness stations through lumber <br />replacement, Carol Kriegler reported that a rough cost estimate for cedar <br />would be about 57,500.00 (signs and stations) and about 55000.00 for <br />treated lumber. Concerns about the use of treated lumber were raised. <br />Concerns raised were related to the risk of chemical exposure and general <br />aesthetics. <br />Carol Kriegler reported that a representative from the city's loss control <br />consultants considered the idea of reconstructing the stations as "unwise". <br />A liability case involving an injury on reconstructed equipment would be <br />difficult to defend. <br />Carol Kriegler also reported that GameTime, a major play equipment <br />manufacturer, has bought out Parcourse, the manufacturer of the equipment <br />currently installed at the park. It was agreed that an RFP should be sent to <br />vendors. It should be requested that they submit a design for station layout <br />and cost. <br />D-3. Discussion of possible improvements to the east entry at Community <br />• entry. <br />Given the issues involved in a design of the east entry.
