•
MINUTES
City of Falcon Heights
Parks and Recreation Commission
March 9, 1998 - 7:00 PM
Present: Carol Kriegler (Parks Director), Laura Kuettel (Council Liaison), Donna Daykin and Greg
Schaefer.
Absent: Nar+.cy Wickhem, Lois !-Aillett anc Peter Lindstrom.
1. Minutes of the December 8, 1997 meeting were approved.
2. Agenda Item D.-1 1998 planned capital improvements for the parks.
Considerable discussion was held concerning the replacement of the dilapidated fitness stations at
Community Park. Few vendors are available with limited selection in the type of construction. In an
effort to obtain input from avid users of the equipment, it was decided that they be invited to the next
• Commission meeting to be held on April 13, 1998 so they may express their opinions in the selection
of replacement equipment. Known frequent users will be invited by telephone and a sign will be
posted at the park to notify interested parties of the upcoming meeting.
Suggestion were given as to ways to make the northeast entry into Community Park more attractive
and inviting. The heavy pedestrian traffic in the small area bordering the parking lot, tennis courts
and the playground equipment, limited the potential proposals to offer an appealing, but functional
entry way. Replacing and redesigning the walkway surface and the gateway would likely be the top
priority in any improvements. Due to the high children usage of the playground area and the nearby
parking lot, it was agreed the continued use of fencing would offer the best security to assure the
children's safety. Further input on creative landscaping and attractive fencing would be sought prior
to any definite proposals being submitted for consideration.
Agenda Item D.-2 Update of the 1998 summer recreation program.
The summer recreational information, schedule and registration forms are being completely
reformatted to be more user friendly. The program, scheduled days of the week and starting time
will be easier to identify. In addition, the registration for multiply participants will be less confusing.
Submitted by Greg Schaefer
•
