MINUTES FOR THE GOAL SETTING WORKSHOP <br />TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 2014 <br />PRESENT: Bronk, Klein, Petryk, Weidt <br />ABSENT: Haas (was present via Skype but not considered in attendance due to requirements <br />not being met) <br />STAFF PRESENT: City Administrator Bryan Bear, Fire Chief Kevin Colvard, Planner Rachel <br />Juba, Parks Planner Shayla Syverson, and City Clerk Michele Lindau <br />City Administrator Bryan Bear reviewed the 2013 City Focus Goals, emphasizing the goals that <br />weren't met from last year. <br />Fire Chief Kevin Colvard spoke about the recruitment and retention program implemented in <br />2013, which he feels is going well but it is too early to tell, same with retention of firefighters. <br />He stated that the Fire Department and City staff were trying to grasp what is involved with <br />taking over the ambulance service. Kevin talked about some capital expenses that he feels the <br />Department will need in the future and the importance of holding another workshop with <br />Council. <br />Mayor Weidt acknowledged that the Council needs to meet with individual departments more <br />often. <br />Planner Rachel Juba summarized the goals of the Planning Commission explaining the two areas <br />of focus were the development of downtown Hugo and the City identity. <br />Parks Planner Shayla summarized the goals of the Parks Commission which included the future <br />of the recreation department in Hugo. Shayla stated that the Parks Commission would like to <br />meet with Council to discuss what the direction they should go. Development of trails was also a <br />goal as well as Irish Avenue and Lions Park development. The Commission did not identify a <br />dog park as a priority, but the Council talked about how they felt there was a need for one in the <br />community. <br />Planner Rachel Juba summarized the goals of the Economic Development Authority, which <br />include downtown redevelopment, specifically the development of the City owned property <br />along Egg Lake. The EDA also felt it was important to work on maintaining a business friendly <br />environment, marketing and promoting the City, and creating a five-year EDA plan. <br />The Council discussed water conservation as being a top goal, and talked about whether the <br />development of CSAH 4 corridor and gateway planning should be a goal. There was also <br />discussion on hiring another intern or a consultant to work on some projects. <br />Klein made motion, Petryk seconded, to adjourn at 9:51 p.m. <br />Sincerely, <br />Michele Lindau <br />City Clerk <br />
