Hugo City Council Meeting Minutes for June 3, 2013
Page 5 of 6
Metropolitan Area Water Supply Advisory Committee Update
0
Council Member and Member of the Metropolitan Area Water Supply Advisory Committee
Chuck Haas provided the Council an update on recent meetings of the Committee. Haas has
been a member since 2005, and at that time, the mission of the Committee was to streamline the
water appropriations permit process. That has been accomplished, and the mission has changed
to now assist the Met Council in its water supply planning actions. Haas stated that if the
regulatory element has changed to planning, cities needed to get more involved. The message
now is that the regions reliance on groundwater is not sustainable, and the move seems to be
increased reliance on surface water. Haas wants the City of be cognizant of what is going on,
and the Council agreed. Council Member Petryk is a member of the Transportation Advisory
Board (TAB) and stated that discussions have begun on water availability and how it relates to
future transportation systems.
Haas made motion, Klein seconded, to give staff latitude in keeping informed of what the
Metropolitan Council is doing as they move forward with water planning activities.
All Ayes. Motion carried.
Update on Local Government Aid
Council Member Haas added this to the agenda to point out that under the new Local
Government State Aid Formula, the City of Hugo is still not receiving any money.
Immigrant Farming Open House June 5, 2013
City Administrator Bryan Bear reminded Council of the Immigrant Farming Open House
scheduled for Wednesday, June 5, 2013 from 5:30 — 8:00 p.m. at the Rice Lake Centre.
