Staff invited the new county
attorney to the Hugo City Council meeting in order to provide Council and the public his views
on the new leadership and new direction for the Washington County Attorney's Office for the
next four years. Pete explained he was surveying cities, fire departments, and police departments
to help determine the direction the department should go and ways for the department to be
responsive to citizen concerns. His plan is to offer training to police that would fit their
schedules, create an interactive website for law enforcement and citizens, and encourage
communities to use the County Attorney's Office staff for presentations. A comprehensive
policy manual is being drafted for the public as well as a mission statement and logo. Attorney
Orput invited the Council and public to visit him and his staff at the courthouse. He stated an
open house will be scheduled for sometime in late spring/early summer.
