Hugo City Council Meeting Minutes for May 2, 2011 <br />Page 2 of 8 <br />Approve Proclamation Proclaiming May 1St as Sergeant Joe Bergeron Day in Hugo <br />At its April 18, 2011 meeting, the Hugo City Council discussed the need to remember the one- <br />year anniversary of the loss of life of Hugo resident and Maplewood Police Department <br />Sergeant Joe Bergeron who was killed in the line of duty on May 1, 2010. Council directed staff <br />to prepare a proclamation proclaiming the first day in May as Sergeant Joe Bergeron Day in the <br />City of Hugo. City staff has prepared the proclamation noting as well May 15-21, 2011 as <br />National Police Week. Three deputies from the Washington County Sheriff's Department were <br />in attendance including Deputy Pete Godfrey who offered to bring the signed proclamation to <br />Joe's wife Gail. <br />Weidt made motion, Haas seconded, to approve the Proclamation proclaiming May 1St as Joe <br />Bergeron Day in the City of Hugo. <br />All Ayes. Motion carried. <br />Acting Mayor Becky Petryk presented the Proclamation to Deputy Godfrey on behalf of the City <br />of Hugo, and Deputy Godfrey accepted the Proclamation on behalf of Joe's widowed wife Gail. <br />Approve Gluten Free Workshop Sponsored by Festival Foods and HealthEast on Monday, <br />May 16, 2011 <br />City staff was contacted by representatives from Festival Foods and the HealthEast Hugo Clinic <br />regarding the interest in holding the City's first ever Gluten Free Workshop. Representatives <br />from both businesses would like to use the City of Hugo's Oneka Room to hold the event, which <br />is scheduled for Monday, May 16, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. Mark Hartmann from Festival Foods was <br />present to explain the event to the Council and public, which will include a 5K/1 OK Walk/Run <br />on Saturday, May 21, 2011, gluten free sampling events, and representatives from HealthEast to <br />provide free health screening and nutritional information. <br />Weidt made motion, Haas seconded, to approve the Gluten Free Workshop at Festival Foods and <br />HealthEast on Monday, May 16, 2011 at Hugo City Hall from 6:30 to 8 p.m., and Saturday, May <br />21, 2011 from noon to 5 p.m. at Festival Foods. <br />All Ayes. Motion carried. <br />Health Up and GO Walking Club <br />City Administrator Mike Ericson informed Council of the success of the Health Up and Go <br />Wellness Challenge kickoff event that took place at Hugo City Hall on Saturday, April 30, 2011. <br />The event included free health screening, kids programs, and connections with local gyms and <br />fitness options. As part of this a summer -long 148 day wellness challenge, Hugo Chiropractor <br />Bill Barrett began the Hugo Walking Club, which started tonight at Hugo City Hall at 6:30 p.m. <br />The public is encouraged to contact City Hall for information on Health Up and GO Wellness <br />Challenge Events. <br />
