Hugo City Council Meeting Minutes for May 2, 2011 Page 2 of 8 Approve Proclamation Proclaiming May 1St as Sergeant Joe Bergeron Day in Hugo At its April 18, 2011 meeting, the Hugo City Council discussed the need to remember the one- year anniversary of the loss of life of Hugo resident and Maplewood Police Department Sergeant Joe Bergeron who was killed in the line of duty on May 1, 2010. Council directed staff to prepare a proclamation proclaiming the first day in May as Sergeant Joe Bergeron Day in the City of Hugo. City staff has prepared the proclamation noting as well May 15-21, 2011 as National Police Week. Three deputies from the Washington County Sheriff's Department were in attendance including Deputy Pete Godfrey who offered to bring the signed proclamation to Joe's wife Gail. Weidt made motion, Haas seconded, to approve the Proclamation proclaiming May 1St as Joe Bergeron Day in the City of Hugo. All Ayes. Motion carried. Acting Mayor Becky Petryk presented the Proclamation to Deputy Godfrey on behalf of the City of Hugo, and Deputy Godfrey accepted the Proclamation on behalf of Joe's widowed wife Gail. Approve Gluten Free Workshop Sponsored by Festival Foods and HealthEast on Monday, May 16, 2011 City staff was contacted by representatives from Festival Foods and the HealthEast Hugo Clinic regarding the interest in holding the City's first ever Gluten Free Workshop. Representatives from both businesses would like to use the City of Hugo's Oneka Room to hold the event, which is scheduled for Monday, May 16, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. Mark Hartmann from Festival Foods was present to explain the event to the Council and public, which will include a 5K/1 OK Walk/Run on Saturday, May 21, 2011, gluten free sampling events, and representatives from HealthEast to provide free health screening and nutritional information. Weidt made motion, Haas seconded, to approve the Gluten Free Workshop at Festival Foods and HealthEast on Monday, May 16, 2011 at Hugo City Hall from 6:30 to 8 p.m., and Saturday, May 21, 2011 from noon to 5 p.m. at Festival Foods. All Ayes. Motion carried. Health Up and GO Walking Club City Administrator Mike Ericson informed Council of the success of the Health Up and Go Wellness Challenge kickoff event that took place at Hugo City Hall on Saturday, April 30, 2011. The event included free health screening, kids programs, and connections with local gyms and fitness options. As part of this a summer -long 148 day wellness challenge, Hugo Chiropractor Bill Barrett began the Hugo Walking Club, which started tonight at Hugo City Hall at 6:30 p.m. The public is encouraged to contact City Hall for information on Health Up and GO Wellness Challenge Events.
