Minutes for the Hugo City Council Meeting on May 16, 2011
Page 7 of 7
Discussion on MN DOT Work on I -35E & TH61 for Summer 2011
Staff was recently informed by MN DOT officials that significant road reconstruction work will
be undertaken on TH61 this summer in addition to road work on I -35E. The I -35E roadwork
includes the closing of one lane for shoulder work that will dramatically affect the vehicular
traffic on I -35E and consequently TH61, which will be the reliever for the freeway. It was noted
that work on TH61 was scheduled for this summer also, but City Engineer Jay Kennedy
explained the work on TH61 will be south of Buffalo Street through White Bear Lake, and
should not have a huge impact on Hugo traffic. The I -35E resurfacing project is planned to be a
three-month project on the portion of roadway between Highway 96 in White Bear Lake north to
the I-35EAV split. Staff will put a link to MN DOT on the City website where residents can go
to get the most current information on detours. Staff will also keep the businesses up to date on
to the construction work through the Hugo Business Association.
Update on the Yellow Ribbon Network
Councilmember Haas added this item to the agenda to update the Council and public on
activities of the Yellow Ribbon Network.
