MINUTES FOR THE CITY COUNCIL BUDGET WORKSHOP <br />TUESDAY, MARCH 17, 2009 AT 9:00 AM <br />Mayor Fran Miron called the meeting to order at 9:03 a.m. <br />PRESENT: Haas, Klein, Petryk, Weidt, Miron <br />ABSENT: None <br />ALSO PRESENT: City Administrator Mike Ericson, Community Development Director <br />Bryan Bear, City Engineer Jay Kennedy, Finance Director Ron Otkin, Public Works <br />Director Scott Anderson, and Administrative Intern Shelly Clausen <br />City Administrator Mike Ericson reviewed with Council the 2009 City Focus Goals <br />stating that the year will be busy for staff. Finance Director Ron Otkin presented Council <br />with a review of the state aids received by the City, 2008 aid reductions, 2009 potential <br />aid reductions, and recommendations. He stated that this was a contingency plan and was <br />not "cast in stone". <br />The Council had a broad discussion on what could be done should the City face more <br />state cuts. Ron stated that exact information will not be available until the Minnesota <br />State Legislatures adjourn in lay May or even later as some predict. <br />After discussion, Council agreed to not purchase or maintain hanging flower baskets <br />along CSAH 8 in 2009 and decrease the number of seasonal employees from seven to <br />five. <br />Council members shared with staff a number of budget line items inquiring as to whether <br />the City could delay the purchases. Mayor Miron stated that although it is budgeted, it is <br />not certain the money will be spent <br />Council directed staff to not move forward on new projects and watch all expenditures <br />including those specifically identified. Council agreed that no special meeting was <br />needed until the mid -year budget review due to the City audit in April. <br />Klein made motion, Weidt seconded, to adjourn at 10:34 a.m. <br />All Ayes.
