MEDIA DAY FOR ONE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF MAY 25, 2008 TORNADO <br />MAY 229 2009 AT 10:00 A.M. <br />HUGO CITY HALL <br />MEETING MINUTES <br />Mayor Fran Miron called the meeting to order at 10:03 a.m. <br />Present: Haas, Klein, Petryk, Weidt, Miron <br />Others present: City Administrator Mike Ericson, Community Development Director Bryan <br />Bear, Fire Chief Jim Compton, Long -Term Recovery Services Committee Chair Jim Gondek, <br />Washington County Sheriff Bill Hutton, Senator Ray Vandeveer, Washington County <br />Commissioner Dennis Hegberg, and other City staff <br />A press conference was held in observance of the May 25, 2008 Tornado Disaster nearly one <br />year ago. Mayor Fran Miron addressed the media which included members of the television, <br />radio and newspaper mediums. Fran shared with the media a PowerPoint Presentation which <br />provided a recap of the tornado disaster and hail storm on May 25, 2008 and the subsequent <br />cleanup, recovery and rebuilding efforts. The Mayor invited Jerry and Kristina Prindle to the <br />podium to share their story and loss of their son Nate. <br />Long Term Recovery Services Committee chair Jim Gondek shared with the media the work of <br />the Committee for the past eleven months in dispersing the $480,000 of donated funds. There <br />were a number of questions asked by the media which were answered by the panelists. Mayor <br />Miron concluded by stating that residents are encouraged to adjourn to the Oneka Room for <br />coffee and cookies and to offer their comments and stories to the media as they may feel <br />comfortable with. <br />A community volunteer appreciation ceremony will take place on Sunday, June 7 at 3:00 p.m. at <br />Lions Park as part of Good Neighbor Days.
