White Bear Area Senior Program Focus Group Meeting
Tuesday, September 22, 2009, 10 a.m. - Noon
Hugo City Hall - Oneka Room
Mayor Fran Miron called the meeting to order at 10:04 a.m. and welcomed everyone.
Barb Green and attendees introduced themselves.
Present: Mayor Fran Miron, Councilmembers Phil Klein and Tom Weidt
Absent: Councilmembers Chuck Haas and Becky Petryk
Also Present: City Administrator Mike Ericson, White Bear Senior Program Coordinator
Barb Green and staff, and Hugo residents. Barb Connelly was in attendance representing
the Hugo Seniors Club.
The purpose of this focus group meeting was to provide an opportunity for seniors to
participate in discussion on the Age Wave due to the number of seniors retiring and the
need to provide opportunities.
Barb Green facilitated the discussion with a focus on six topics: overall senior program,
Meals on Wheels, Lionmobile transportation, Senior Center, Outreach Program, and
volunteer programs. Mayor Miron stated he would like to see all Hugo Seniors living in
the four different school districts involved, and inquired how the White Bear Lake
Seniors Program could help to engage them. The Lionmobile services the transportation
needs of seniors living in the White Bear Lake School District but HSI is the overall
transportation provider for the entire City of Hugo.
There were several questions and issues raised for discussion, and the Mayor and
Councilmembers agreed that it was very helpful to plan for the long term needs of the
seniors.
Klein made motion, Weidt seconded, to adjourn at 12:00 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
Michael A. Ericson
City Administrator
