MINUTES FOR THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING OF MONDAY, APRIL 21, 2008 Mayor Fran Miron called the meeting to order at 7:06 p.m. PRESENT: Haas, Puleo, Miron ABSENT: Granger, Petryk ALSO PRESENT: City Administrator Mike Ericson, Community Development Director Bryan Bear, City Attorney Dave Snyder, City Engineer Jay Kennedy, Public Works Director Chris Petree, and City Clerk Michele Lindau Approval of City Council Meeting Minutes of April 7, 2008 Haas made motion, Puleo seconded, to approve the minutes for the City Council meeting of April 7, 2008 as presented. All aye. Motion carried. Approval of Agenda Haas made motion, Puleo seconded, to approve the agenda for April 21, 2008 as presented. All aye. Motion carried. 2008 Hugo Kidz'n Biz Fest — Hugo Business Association/Hugo EDA/The Citizen On Sunday, April 6, 2008 the fourth annual Hugo Kidz'n Biz Fest was held at Oneka Elementary School. This event is co-sponsored by the Hugo Business Association and the Hugo Economic Development Authority and presented by The Citizen Newspaper. Its purpose is to connect the Hugo business community with the parents and children and families in a PTA carnival atmosphere, which allows the businesses to introduce themselves and market themselves directly to families. The 2008 event was a huge success with more than 1500 children, parents and volunteers in attendance as well as 42 businesses from the Hugo Business Association Many thanks went to the Hugo Kidz'n Biz Fest Committee, on which Katie Riopel, Janine Ketchel, Debi Johnson, Louis Melamed, Paula Romero, Shannon Devinny, and Nate Ehalt, Brian Denaway and Mike Ericson from the City of Hugo. With strong support from HBA President Phil Klein as well as the City's own Economic Development Authority, the event was publicized with much fanfare and hoopla with The Citizen Newspaper's Publisher Louis Melamed. Mayor Fran Miron was in attendance again as one of the chocolate chip cookie eating contest judges. He shared with Council, along with Council Member Chuck Hass who was also in attendance, the community spirit that was exhibited by Hugo residents and visitors last Sunday afternoon. Mayor Fran Miron publicly acknowledged the members of the Hugo Business Association, EDA, The Citizen, and the committee members, and thanked them for their volunteer work to make the City of Hugo a great place to live, work, shop, and play. Shannon Devinny, Phil Klein, and Louis Melamed thanked the Council and City staff for their work and support and thanked the many sponsors, especially WSB Engineering, that made the event possible.
