MINUTES FOR THE EMERGENCY STAFF MEETING ON MAY 27, 2008 LOCATED IN
THE HUGO FIRE HALL AT 8:OOAM
The meeting was called to order by Acting Mayor Becky Petryk.
PRESENT: Council Members Frank Puleo, Chuck Haas and Becky Petryk, City Administrator Mike
Ericson, Sheriff Hutton and emergency management personnel, and members of the public and media,
Fire Chief Jim Compton, Asst. Fire Chief Jadon 011ila, volunteer organizations.
ABSENT: Mayor Fran Miron
Resident credentialing — This has been going well since starting yesterday. Residents seem to be
pleased that the City is working hard to keep onlookers out of the area.
Fire Chief has approved Excel Energy to turn gas and electric back on to homes that have been given a
green inspection tag.
Debris removal — Many 20 yard dumpsters are now in the area for folks to use. Residents have also
been given instructions for separating debris for pickup. If personal items are found, they are being
taken to the Fire Hall for storage.
Contractor Management — All contractors seeking entry into the area need to receive City credentialing
before entry and must provide a specific address they intend on visiting. Building inspectors continue
to assess damage in the Hot Zone.
In order to reduce confusion for media and relieve space for the Red Cross, the Red Cross will
continue to house out of the Fire Hall, and the media press conferences will be moved to the Council
Chamber in City Hall.
Information Disbursement — The City of Hugo will continue to update their website as much as
possible throughout the day. There will be two sections; one for media and another for residents.
Also, flyers with pertinent information will be distributed daily to the affected residents.
Volunteer Management — The Red Cross and Salvation Army are feeding people daily and helping
them with temporary housing issues. They are also providing mental health assistance and help with
any issues families may have at this time. They are going to provide information for the Long Term
Recovery efforts to the City of Hugo. A clean-up day on Saturday May 31, 2008 has been scheduled
and all the volunteer organizations will help with the event. The staging area for the clean-up day will
be at the transportation center in Forest Lake. The clean-up will focus on two areas; the Hot Zone on
the west side of highway 61 and the farmland areas east of highway 61.
The food shelf and donation center continues to be held in the Hugo Fire Hall until further notice.
Council member Haas made a motion, Petryk seconded to adjourn at 8:45AM.
Respectfully Submitted,
Michael A. Ericson
City Administrator
