RESOLUTION 2008-35 <br />RESOLUTION REQUESTING DAMAGED PROPERTY BE REASSESSED <br />Whereas, the City of Hugo experienced a tornado disaster on May 25, 2008; and <br />Whereas, said disaster did cause extensive damage to residential property in the <br />City of Hugo, with the most extensive damage occurring in the Creekview Preserve <br />neighborhood, Waters Edge neighborhood, and an area east of Hwy 61 and Oneka Lake; <br />and <br />Whereas, the City of Hugo has been declared a disaster area by a city <br />declaration of a state of emergency adopted on May 26, 2008 and a county declaration of a <br />state of emergency on June 3, 2008 and the Governor of the State of Minnesota ordered <br />that a state of emergency exists within Washington County on May 26, 2008; and <br />Whereas, Minnesota Chapter 273.1231 through 273.1235 provides for a <br />reassessment of properties damaged by a disaster upon application to the Governor of the <br />State of Minnesota and the State Executive Council; and <br />Whereas, the minimum requirements of the aforementioned statute have been <br />met as demonstrated in the attached damage assessment report; <br />Therefore be it resolved that the Hugo City Council does hereby request that the <br />property damaged from the disaster that occurred on May 25, 2008 and identified in the <br />attached damage assessment report be reassessed for the purpose of the special property tax <br />credit for damaged property under the provisions of Minnesota Statutes Chapter 273.1231- <br />.1235. <br />Be it further resolved, that the Hugo City Council requests this application be <br />reviewed expeditiously in order to have the property tax relief approved and processed <br />prior to the October 15 deadline for the second half payment of property taxes. <br />ADOPTED by the Hugo City Council on July 7, 2008. !. <br />iron, ayor <br />ATTEST: <br />s � <br />Michele Lindau, City Clerk <br />
