RESOLUTION 1989-7 <br />RESOLUTION DECLARING THE WEEK OF MARCH 5-12, 1989 <br />AS "VOLUNTEERS OF AMERICA WEEK" <br />WHEREAS, the Volunteers of America, a Christian social service <br />organization,, is celebrating it's 93rd year of service to the people of <br />Minnesota and the nation; it is therefore certainly appropriate for us to <br />join in the observance of this milestone with the commemoration of March <br />5-129 1989 as Volunteers of America Week; and <br />WHEREAS. the Volunteers of America is making a valuable contribution to <br />the people of Minnesota by providing two residential treatment centers for <br />emotionally handicapped boys; a children's emergency shelter; six programs <br />serving autistic, autistic -like and/or developmentally disabled children <br />and youth; 50 treatment foster homes and group homes for infants, children <br />and youth; four homes for elderly and/or mentally disabled adults; 42 <br />senior citizen dining sites in Anoka and Hennepin -C-Gu-nties; a pre-release <br />and work -release correctional program for men and a jail, workhouse, and <br />work -release correctional facility for female offenders; plus three <br />housing complexes for families, the handicapped, and the elderly; and four <br />long-term care facilities; and <br />WHEREAS, the Volunteers of America, through it's compassionate yet <br />practical crusade, is extending spiritual fellowship as it provides relief <br />where it is most urgently needed; and <br />WHEREAS, the Volunteers of America is commemorating it's founding in 1896 <br />and urges others to uphold the American philanthropic spirit through their <br />commitment to help those in need; <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF HUGO, WASHINGTON <br />COUNTY, MINNESOTA, that I, George Atkinson, Mayor of the City .of Hugo, do <br />hereby proclaim the week of March 5-12, 1989, as VOLUNTEERS OF AMERICA <br />WEEK in the City of Hugo, <br />AND, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that copies of this proclamation be <br />transmitted to the Volunteers of America as evidence of our esteem. <br />ADOPTED AND PASSED THIS 6TH DAY OF MARCH., 989 <br />George Atkinson, Mayor <br />ATTEST: <br />ly <br />ar �7 Creager, Ci <br />Clerk <br />
