RESOLUTION 1975-26 <br />Whereas property taxes tend to be highest and most burdensome in cities, and in the <br />absence of some action by the state legislature municipal property taxes in the city <br />Cf Hugo will increase in 1976 and 1977, and <br />Whereas the city council of Hugo strongly favors the reduction of <br />municipal property taxes, and the most feasible way of accomplishing this without <br />drastically reducing essential municipal services is through the distribition of <br />railroad and telephone gross earnings taxes to cities as proposed by Governor <br />Anderson, and <br />Whereas local units of government receive no property taxes or other taxes from rail- <br />road or telephone property and the City of Hugo will receive <br />approximately $ 8.81 0.85 under the proposed distribution of telephone and rail- <br />road gross earnings in 1976, and <br />Nhereas this method of tax reduction is preferable to other alternatives being <br />considered. <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF HUGO <br />respectfully urges the Minnesota State Legislature to distribute all of the telephone <br />and railroad gross earnings taxes, amounting to $46 million in 1976 and $49 million <br />in 1977, to local units of government as proposed by Governor Anderson, and <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOIVED that copies of this resolution be transmitted to the Governor <br />of` the State of Minnesota, Members of the State Legislature and the League of Minne- <br />sota Municipalities, <br />Adopted this 7th. day of April, 397 <br />MAYOR <br />ATTEST: <br />i <br />ERK �— <br />
