MINUTES FOR THE COUNCIL BUDGET WORKSHOP OF JULY 18.2007 <br />Mayor Fran Miron called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm. <br />PRESENT: Granger, Haas, Petryk, Puleo, Miron <br />City Administrator Mike Ericson, CD Director Bryan Bear, Finance Director Ron Otkin, and PW <br />Director Chris Petree. <br />There was no one present in the audience. <br />PRESENTATION OF MID -YEAR BUDGET <br />City Administrator Mike Ericson explained that the Hugo City Council scheduled a mid -year <br />review of the City budget to provide a snapshot through the first six months of the year and to <br />have a general discussion on next year's budget. Finance Director Ron Otkin provided Council <br />with a PowerPoint presentation of expenditures and revenues to date in 2007. He discussed the <br />City's Capital Improvement Program (CIP) and suggestions for equipment purchases. He is <br />pleased with the building permits issued to date. He also shared with Council the official <br />management letter issued to the City of Hugo by City auditors Smith Schafer & Associates. The <br />letter was not included in the 2006 CAFR audit report presented to Council at its July 16, 2007 <br />meeting. It will be distributed to the two residents who requested it. <br />COUNCIL DISCUSSION <br />Mayor and Council members asked several questions, which were answered by the finance <br />director and staff. Council was pleased with projected revenues and agreed to direct staff to <br />reduce the current City tax rate of 35.111 in preparation for the setting of the preliminary <br />certified tax levy at the September 3, 2007 City Council meeting. Council agreed to a priority <br />list of public safety, parks, and transportation in 2008. <br />ADJOURNMENT <br />Haas made motion, Granger seconded, to adjourn at 9:10 pm. <br />All aye.
