MINUTES FOR THE I-35 W/E TRI -CITIES COALITION MEETING OF JANUARY 20,
2005
Mayor Fran Miron called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm.
PRESENT (HUGO): Frank Puleo and Fran Miron
ABSENT: Granger, Haas, and Petryk
OTHERS: See attached signup sheet
FEDERAL FUNDING FOR I-35E/CSAH 14 INTERCHANGE
Lino Lakes Mayor John Bergeson and its CD Director Mike Grochala reported details of the
$250,000 grant for an engineering design of 35E/CR14 interchange, thanks to Congressman Mark
Kennedy, which requires $260,000 local match. Planner Mike Rogers reported on HPP joint
funding Washington County/Anoka County HPP application for the interchange. He requested
resolutions and letters of support from local agencies by January 28, 2005.
Bergeson moved, Centerville Mayor Mary Capra seconded, to approve the proposed resolution as
amended.
All aye. Motion Carried.
Local agencies should work with Mike Rogers and Met Council representative Georgie Hilker on the
letter of support from the coalition and forward a copy of the resolution and letter to Mike Rogers.
I-35 CORRIDOR STUDY
The next meeting is scheduled for February 10, 2005 at the Lino Lakes City Hall, from 1:00 pm to
3:00 pm. Traffic models have found preference to add capacity to the I-35 corridor in lieu of
capacity improvements to parallel routes.
NORTH METRO I -35W COALITION
Bob Benke of CRP, Inc. explained organization and activities of 1-35W Corridor Coalition.
Combined GIS and land use information has been helpful for all cities. A major traffic study was
completed that recommended land use changes and infrastructure improvements to accommodate
increased traffic. No plans with MnDOT to expand 35W through 2030. No transit ways planned —
only buses. They are pushing for additional lanes and several interchange improvements. They
operate with a $100,000 annual budget provided by member cities. Additional grant money has
been provided.
DISCUSSION OF CSAH 14 WIDENING PROJECT
Centerville Mayor Mary Capra expressed concern about 21" Avenue's proximity to the interchange.
Centerville would like signalization at 21" Avenue for future business development at that corner.
Grochala explained traffic problems with a full access and signal there and explained the need for
frontage roads.
CITY/COUNTY UPDATES
Lino Lakes - moving ahead with a town center project — AUAR for 35E corridor.
