Each year, the Parks Commission sets goals for the following year. Last year, in <br />an effort to offer more to the residents of Hugo, the Parks Commission approved <br />recreation program goals in addition to their park, trail and open space <br />development goals. These goals are presented to the City Council. The City <br />Council approves City Focus Goals and Ongoing Priorities. These often include <br />parks projects. <br />Each year, the Parks Commission prepares a Capital Improvement Budged for <br />the following year (budget) and a five-year Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). The <br />budget may include smaller park and trail development projects. The CIP shows <br />funding for larger, more long-term projects. The Parks Commission can make <br />recommendations on how to use park dedication funds and the park tax levies to <br />the City Council. Currently, the majority of funds are going towards bond <br />payments for the Hanifl Shelter and the purchase of the Irish Avenue Park <br />property. <br />Staff recommends discussion on and approval of 2012 Goals, 2010-2015 Capital <br />Improvement Plan and 2012 budget. <br />VI. Set the Date for the 2012 Sledding Partv <br />The City of Hugo holds a Sledding Party in Oak Shore Park annually. Usually it <br />is held on the 2nd Saturday in February. Staff is recommending a date is set for <br />the 2012 Sledding Party. <br />Other Updates <br />Irish Avenue Park- at their meeting of December 5, 2011, the City Council <br />received an update from the Sub -Committee. The Council recommended that <br />the Parks Commission discuss the next steps of the Irish Avenue Park Sub - <br />Committee. This will be on the January 11, 2012 agenda of the Parks <br />Commission. <br />Lions Park- at their meeting of November 21, 2011, the City Council approved <br />the Lions Park Development Guidelines. The Council generally liked the plan <br />which includes guidelines to ensure the park is safe and functional, emphasizes <br />Hugo's country charm and character through design, offers unique recreational <br />facilities and attractions, and builds community spirit by providing a place for <br />events. The Council also directed staff to develop cost estimates and designs for <br />the park. Continued discussion on Lions Park Planning will be on a future <br />agenda. <br />Commission Membership- Representatives from the City Council, Parks <br />Commission and Planning Commission interviewed candidates for Commission <br />vacancies.
