CITY OF MONTICELLO <br />TOBACCO -FREE POLICY <br />Subject: Prohibition of tobacco product use in the City of Monticello's park and trail system and the <br />Monticello Community Center building. <br />Purpose: In order to protect the health and welfare of the citizens of Monticello and the people who <br />use the City's parks and trails, the City of Monticello prohibits the use of tobacco products <br />on City owned park land, trails and open space. Tobacco products are also prohibited: <br />I . Anywhere within the Monticello Community Center building. <br />2. Outside the Community Center at the immediate entrances to the facility. <br />3. Anywhere near the Wheel Parks including the adjacent pool patio. <br />4. In the South (Sixth street West) parking lot and all adjoining sidewalks to that <br />parking lot. <br />Policy: No person shall use tobacco products on City owned park land, trails and open spaces or at <br />the Monticello Community Center building except for the following: <br />1. At the Xcel Ballfields, except during exclusively youth activities. <br />2. At Ellison Park during the Riverfest celebration. <br />3. The patio immediately accessible from the Mississippi Room will be available for <br />smoking for renters of the Mississippi Room only. <br />Implementation: <br />The emphasis on enforcing the Tobacco -Free park policy is through voluntary compliance. <br />I . Signs shall be posted at all City owned parks, trails and open space. <br />2. City staff will make periodic observations of park land, trail and open space to <br />monitor for compliance. <br />3. Support for community education program implemented to assist in enforcing this <br />policy. <br />4. Youth athletic associations that utilize city owned facilities must commit to <br />enforcing this policy during all scheduled activities. <br />Adoption date by City Council: June 14, 2004 <br />Recommended for approval by Parks Commission: May 27, 2004 <br />Recommended for approval by MCC Advisory Board: May 27, 2004 <br />
